What is a Brick?

Bricks are the fundamental unit of masonry construction — used for walls, boundary structures, pillars, and facades. Accurate brick estimation prevents costly mid-project shortages (which cause delays and color mismatches in new batches) and wasteful overordering. The standard brick size used in Pakistan is 9"×4.5"×3" (228×114×76mm), with approximately 55–60 bricks per square meter of single-layer wall. Double-layer (9-inch) walls use twice as many bricks and provide better insulation and structural strength.

How to Use This Calculator

Enter the wall length and height in meters. Select the wall thickness — single brick (4.5 inch) or double brick (9 inch). Click Calculate to see the number of bricks needed including 10% wastage, wall area, and thickness specification. The 10% waste buffer accounts for cuts, chips during transport, and having extras for future repairs with matching bricks.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Always buy bricks from the same kiln batch to ensure color consistency — mixing batches can create visible color differences.
  • Order 10–15% extra bricks and store them — future repairs with matching bricks are nearly impossible if you run out.
  • For boundary walls in Pakistan, specify Zarb 1st class bricks (crushing strength 105 kg/cm²) for durability.
  • Proper mortar joints of 10–12mm are critical — too thin weakens the wall, too thick wastes material.
  • In earthquake-prone areas, consult a structural engineer before building walls over 3 meters without columns.

Who Uses This Calculator?

Homeowners planning garden walls, boundary walls, or room additions. Contractors preparing bill of quantities for construction projects. Civil engineers estimating material costs. Architects specifying quantities in technical drawings. Construction material suppliers estimating delivery requirements for clients.
